Air Conditioners in Darwin - A Necessity, not a Luxury!

June 28, 2019
Living in Darwin during the dry season is absolutely beautiful. And when I say dry season I mean the two months of June and July where the weather is actually perfect, not the 6 months it's made out to be. During this time you can get away with calling the air-conditioner a luxury as there is nearly no need for it. But unfortunately for us the beautiful weather does not last.

During the build up, or even the wet season in general you are unable to live without your air conditioner. It's not like a coffee where you can go "I'll give it a miss today." It's "turn that thing on now so I can be comfortable while I'm at home and trying to sleep!" Your air conditioner is as important as your car is to get you to and from work! And you service that regularly (or as regularly as when it says your a few thousand kilometers overdue for a service). So your air conditioner is the same, and if you want the air in your home to be clean, healthy, free of mould, bacteria and microbial contamination, while limiting breakdowns and saving on your power bill it requires regular maintenance, not just from a professional, but yourself.

Cleaning your filters is a pain in the bum! We all know it and we all forget about them until we think "hey there's something wrong with my aircon, better check the filters." By this stage it is too late and your air-conditioner has already started pulling through small bits of what was caught on the filters into the air-conditioner where it gets stuck on the coil (due to condensation) or on the scroll fan. This means your air-conditioner now has to work harder to do less costing you more on your power bill and not being able to cool the room as well as it should. Oh, and don't forget about the mould building up thanks to the perfect environment it is in.

If you want to get the most out of your air conditioner, cleaning the filters regularly is the best thing you can do yourself before having to get Advanced Clean Air in to professionally clean it. Imagine being able to get your air conditioners cleaned every 18 months instead of every 12 because you were able to keep on top of your filters! We recommend to clean your filters every month in most cases, but if you have carpet or pets inside we recommend every two weeks, even if your pets don't malt.

If you would like to get a monthly reminder email to clean your filters simply send us an email to get started! And remember when it is time to get your air-conditioners professionally cleaned you can view our prices and book the time and date of your technician all online in real time! Or you can call us on 8947 1698.

Mouldy Air Conditioning Vent in Darwin
By Jason Gebert April 15, 2020
The first sign many people notice is a musty, mouldy odour. If you do a thorough clean of your office or commercial space and the smell is still there, it’s time to check your vents. Getting your Air Conditioning Contractor to remove the covers and take a quick look inside may confirm the issue, especially if you see mould or notice a stronger smell in that area. If the scent is stronger, but you can’t see the mould, then the growth is possibly further in the ducts. Another sign of a mould issue is the sudden onset of allergy symptoms. If you or a co-worker notices burning eyes, scratchy throat, or a runny nose that gets better when you leave the office, there could be an issue. Arranging for your HVAC technician to check your filters should be the first step. If it needs to be changed they can install a new one. If the symptoms continue they can do a quick check of your vents and a visual check of your ducts. Inspecting your duct work can also provide clues to a possible mould problem. An Air Systems Cleaning Specialist (ASCS) can check for signs of moisture build-up, such as condensation, dark spots, or actual leaks. Mould needs water to grow, so any signs of condensation or leaking could indicate a growth hot spot. Duct cleaning and coating is a specialised job and as such the majority of HVAC companies sub-contract duct cleaning and coating out to companies like ours. At Advanced Air we have our Air Systems Cleaning Specialist on staff ready to undertake any duct inspection, cleaning or coating project you may have.
