How to keep your aircon from failing

"But when it’s actually WARMER inside than it is outside, it can be a pretty devastating situation."

One factor that can ruin a warm wet seasons day in Darwin is a failing air conditioner. Your house is usually the cool place you relax when you’ve had enough of the heat outdoors. But when it’s actually WARMER inside than it is outside, it can be a pretty devastating situation. This calls for an air conditioning repair technician, and you’ve got better things to do than wait for your AC to get fixed this time of year. So, how can you avoid an air conditioner failure and take full advantage of your wet season? The key to stopping a failure and the avoidable air conditioning service appointment is to be proactive! Instead of an emergency air conditioning repair, it's best to arrange preventive maintenance?
A preventive AC maintenance tune-up
performed by the technicians at Advanced Air is your first and soundest line of defence against many problems that can end in AC failure—and the resulting miserable build-up days. We’ll check that everything is operating as it should and check for things that could be possible problems later on. We’ll take care of those potential problems before they grow into expensive problems that leave you in the sweltering heat of this sweat season.
Some other things you can do to help keep your air conditioner operating as it should are:
Repeatedly checking and cleaning your air filters to keep air flowing efficiently through your unit.
Ensuring your AC equipment isn’t blocked by any plant life or debris. The harder your AC has to work, the less efficient it’ll be—and the more likely it’ll be to break down prematurely.
Before things heat up this summer, call Advanced Air
to make sure your AC is ready for the challenge!

The first sign many people notice is a musty, mouldy odour. If you do a thorough clean of your office or commercial space and the smell is still there, it’s time to check your vents. Getting your Air Conditioning Contractor to remove the covers and take a quick look inside may confirm the issue, especially if you see mould or notice a stronger smell in that area. If the scent is stronger, but you can’t see the mould, then the growth is possibly further in the ducts. Another sign of a mould issue is the sudden onset of allergy symptoms. If you or a co-worker notices burning eyes, scratchy throat, or a runny nose that gets better when you leave the office, there could be an issue. Arranging for your HVAC technician to check your filters should be the first step. If it needs to be changed they can install a new one. If the symptoms continue they can do a quick check of your vents and a visual check of your ducts. Inspecting your duct work can also provide clues to a possible mould problem. An Air Systems Cleaning Specialist (ASCS) can check for signs of moisture build-up, such as condensation, dark spots, or actual leaks. Mould needs water to grow, so any signs of condensation or leaking could indicate a growth hot spot. Duct cleaning and coating is a specialised job and as such the majority of HVAC companies sub-contract duct cleaning and coating out to companies like ours. At Advanced Air we have our Air Systems Cleaning Specialist on staff ready to undertake any duct inspection, cleaning or coating project you may have.
